Laknos Library & Museum

[Gia Trakana]

One of the grandest buildings in all of Arcanus, the Laknos Library and Museum even rivals the tales of the grand library and museum of the original one-city of Arcanus. It’s near the center of town, and one might mistake it by its size for a government building, until they noticed the architecture, which is vastly different and some of the finest ever done.

Once you walk in, you come into an entry area. There is a desk, with an information desk the only thing in the room. There is a woman standing behind it, who will direct you where to go if you require it. There are two doors on either side.

The door on the left leads you into the Library. There is one grand room, full of books every subject you could think of – fiction and non-fiction. There is a door on the back wall that is locked at all times. You must request it to be opened by a Librarian – and a Librarian only. The books in there are the most old in all of Arcanus, and therefore, cannot be removed, and can only be touched with gloves. However, one of the Librarian’s Assistants can help you with all other matters.

Back to the entry room, the door on the right leads you the Museum. There is one grand room, filled with artifacts of all shapes and sizes dated all the way back to the original one-city of Arcanus. Like the Library, there is a door on the back wall that is locked at all times. You must get an Archeologist, or if they are not there, one of the Historians. The artifacts in there are the most fragile, and must not be removed, and can only be touched briefly with gloves. However, one of the Historian’s Assistant’s can help you with all other matters.

Museum – Back Room

Astaria had been pouring over the diary since the festival had ended. She had insisted that Jiron take care of the scrolls, the chest, and the robes. He had tried to fight her on it, saying that she should help him – it was a lot of work – but in the end, she won. The blonde was glad that she had… She had been able to identify that the diary had belonged to three men of the Lerani family. It had been started by Soron Lerani when he was fifteen. They had known that name. An influential man, he had been one of the first to oppose King Trakenu, Arcanus’ first tyrant, though he had never agreed to violence. It seemed he had given to his son, Vicantor, when he became of age. His son, Nicon, had taken it over after his father’s death when he was sixteen.

She wasn’t ready to start translating every word, but she wanted to get the gist of the entries; she would worry about detailed translation later. It seemed that as soon as Soron had come of age, he had started opposing their King. Another group had emerged soon, started by an older man by the name of Jikone Gregoro. This was expected, and nothing that they were not already aware of. She quickly skimmed through Soron’s section, and then went onto his son, Vicantor. Vicantor had not originally agreed to his father’s ideal, which was interesting, she and Jiros agreed. She came across an odd entry. It sparked her interest, and she translated it all. “Jiros, you will not believe this, you have to listen to this!” She went on to read the following entry, translated from Ancient:

“My father is starting to want me to get involved in all of this, now that I’m of age. I just can’t get involved… He might be willing to put Mother in danger, but I won’t put my future wife in danger. I mean, Metala agreed to marry me! Micon and I were thrilled, as he just got married to Letana. We’ll be married in a month, and I won’t put her in danger, or any children we might have. It’s not fair to her. Micon agrees with me. He doesn’t want to put his wife in danger, either, but his father’s also pressuring him. Sometimes I wonder if we should ever become friends with him. I mean, he’s a great guy, but… he’s a Gregoro. His grandfather started the violent opposition against the Royal Family. My Father started the more passive one. What am I to do? Choose my father over my best friend?”

Astaria looked up from the dairy to see a look of shock on Jiron’ face that she was certain equaled her own. “Do you know what this means?” She knew that he did, and she looked down at the book again, still in shock from the information she had just learned. “We always knew the Lerani’s and Gregoro’s must have known each other on some level, and Soron’s sections indicated he had known the family, though not closely, but this…” She shook her head. This was impossible, and hard to believe. “Vicantor Lerani and Micon Gregoro… two of the most influential people in all of Arcanus’ history, two people who were instrumental to both sides of the conflict… were best friends!”

She had to know… Astaria had to know what happened. They knew from other things that Vicantor died, though they weren’t sure of why. It was almost certain he was killed by the opposing violent party, but of who they weren’t sure. If Micon Gregoro was a friend – a best friend – what had happened to make him choose his family over his best friend, as Vicantor was afraid of? They knew it had happened. Jiron hurried and urged her to continue to find out what he was going on, what had happened. She quickly dived back into the journal, skimming through it see what indeed and happened all those millennia ago…
