Every site has to have rules; without rules, chaos ensues. Some may argue that a little bit of chaos is just what the world needs, but here at WOA, we'd prefer it if things stayed as orderly as possible.
By this point in time, you should've already gone through and read the Rules threads we have up. We're going to break this down a bit, and explain them a little further.
Q: Why are there so many rules here?
A: To be honest, there aren't really that many. The F.A.Q. might make it seem a bit longer, but these aren't really rules [not all of them, at least]. However, to answer, the reason for the rules is that we like a little structure, a little organization on our forums. Rules help that, and help everyone get along a little bit better.
Q: I disagree with one of // some // all of these rules. What do I do?
A: Well, if you disagree with one or some of the rules, that's perfectly OK. We're pretty satisfied with them, but if you've got a few suggestions, don't hesitate to send one of the administrators a polite PM concerning it. However, if you are in disagreement with all of the rules we've outlined, and then perhaps WOA isn't the role playing forum for you.
Q: Do staff members have to follow the rules?
A: Most definitely they do - even more so than the non-staff members, as staff should be setting a behavioural example for everyone. No one is exempt from the rules.
Q: What do I do if I see a staff member breaking the rules?
A: Good question. If you see a staff member breaking the rules, PM me with the staff member or members' name(s) as well as a link to a thread or post where a rule/rules are being broken.
Q: What if I see another member breaking the rules?
A: Then, simply report it to a staff member - any staff member - in the same manner as described above. Please do not mini-mod!
Q: Why do I have to capitalize my display name?
A: Because your administrator has OCD and like everything neat and tidy.
Q: Why can't I use symbols or numbers in my name?
A: Symbols can make display names look pretty, but the fact is, most people don't have names like "Allyson ♥". Numbers are also not a common occurrence in given names, and so we'd prefer if you left them out.
Q: What's the hubbub about hotlinking and image sizes?
A: Hotlinking is illegal and in violation of ProBoards Terms of Service, and thus not allowed on WOA. Image sizes - well, again, your administrators have OCD and don't like it when images stretch the page.
Q: What happens if I don't follow the rules?
A: Well, that's why we have a nifty Warning System in place. Also, please remember - it is up to YOU to request your warning level be lowered; if a staff member does not receive a PM requesting your warning level be lowered, it never will.
Q: Can I get banned for something simple, like not changing my name, or fixing my character profile?
A: We hope it wouldn't come to that, but truth is, yes, you can, should you repeatedly refuse to change or edit something the staff asks you to. Hopefully though, it wouldn't come to that; also, please don't hesitate to contact a staff member if you are ever unsure of why something is being asked of you, or if you feel it unfair.
Q: Why can't I have more than one account?
A: Why do you need more than one? Multiple accounts unfairly increases our member count and makes the forum appear more active than it really is - or, if you don't often post on your other account, makes our forum seem undesirable {{lots of members, very few posts in direct correlation to member count}}. Also, you can simply put your other character(s) in your signature area, and it works just as well. Plus, this saves you the trouble of having to log in and out of different accounts. |
