Welcome to WOA! Don't worry, these FAQ's aren't as long as they seem. This is to get you started.
Q: What is this place and who started it? A: This forum is World of Arcanus, a literate, unique modern/medieval roleplay started by the site's Administrator, Gia Trakana - me.
Q: Who are the site's staff? A: Right now, the only staff are me, the Administrator, and Titanus Pythonidae and Devanus Zeller, the Global Moderators. That might change in the future, but for now, that's it.
Q: So, the staff are the city rulers? A: For the moment, yes. I am Ruler of Aurora Valley. Titanus (with his secondary character) is Ruler of Deproelior. Devanus (with his secondary character) is Ruler of Laknos.
Q: I want to be staff! A: Thank you for your interest! We ask that anyone interested in becoming staff to NOT PM me or any other staff member asking to become staff. We do not look highly upon this. If a staff position is open, a thread will be made asking for applications. We might also approach someone via PM that we feel is right for the job. Just be a good member and active, and you might get noticed.
Q: This is a weird RPG -- how does it work? A: Actually, WOA is an RPF - a roleplaying forum. RPGs, traditionally, are games, with defined statistics (such as traditional tabletops, like D&D, or MMOs). RPFs concentrate more on the literary aspect of roleplaying. Here, everything is done in prose - we ask for description, not statistics, and all your in-character actions and interactions are done in third-person story format.
Q: So how do I go about doing things? A: The subsequent FAQs will explain in further detail; however, a quick overview. First, it's recommended that you introduce yourself to your fellow roleplayers in the "Newbie Introductions" board. Next, make a profile and modify your display name to match your character. Once your profile is accepted, you're free to join in!
Q: Do I have to roleplay? A: The short answer is yes. This is a roleplay forum. Yes, we have other activities (OOC games and chat, show discussion, art/writing areas), but our focus is on roleplaying. As such, all members need to participate in the RP.
Q: What if I'm new to RPFs? A: Hey, no problem; everyone had to start somewhere. If you're new at roleplaying, the only way to get better is to practice and ask for advice from more veteran players. That said, we expect all new RPers here to have the drive to improve their skills, and not just stay posting the bare minimum. Doing this not only frustrates your RP partners, who put time and effort into their posts, it also frustrates anyone you've asked for advice, as it seems to go unheeded. Most importantly, though, you wind up selling yourself short. We're not asking for a novel-length post every time, but self-improvement is never a bad thing.
Q: Do I have to read the rest of the FAQs? A: Technically? No. You don't have to do anything. However, it is highly recommended and advised. We can't force you to read it, but it would make playing a whole lot easier for all of us if you did. There's some "unspoken rules" in here that you might overlook if you skim.
