Name: Devanus Daylen Zeller
Age: 24
City: Laknos
Appearance:
Devanus is short, standing only at five and half feet tall, and this is made all the stranger by the fact that he comes from a long line of tall people. He is also quite thin, appearing almost underweight to the casual eye. This is not to be confused with scrawny, however, as Devanus is both lithe and strong.
There is nothing about Devanus that really warrants noting (very useful in his line of work, but more on that later). He has dark hair, not quite black, which he keeps in whatever style is currently popular in Laknos, so as to blend in more effectively. His green eyes are likewise dark, and many mistake them for brown at first glance. A single thin scar runs along the underside of his jaw, though it is very difficult to see unless you are looking for it.
With long, thin fingers, Devanus is talented with working with his hands, as is evidenced by the often calloused skin on his extremities. Not that anyone would notice this upon meeting him, however, as he keeps his hands folded in his robes.
History:
Devanus' story begins approximately two years before his birth, when his parents fled the city of Deproelior and smuggled themselves into Laknos. With enough coin and a silver tongue, Devanus' father set himself up as a merchant, and soon people stopped asking when he had arrived and from where he had come.
Times were not easy for Devanus as a young child. His birth killed his mother, and his father was too busy running the shop to support them to really spend any time actually raising his child. As a result, Devanus grew up extremely lonely and bitter toward his father; two things without which the rest of his tale could not have unfolded.
At the age of 10, Devanus began going out on his own, occasionally with his father's knowledge, but mostly without. Finding other rebels in the peaceful city was not an easy task, and so Devanus simply hung out with anyone that would have him. Having inherited his father's way with words, however, Devanus soon discovered that he could talk his way into any group of people he liked.
After running through dozens of friends, Devanus settled on a particular group of four about the age of sixteen. Coming from different backgrounds and with very different personalities, the five of them were bound together by one thing: their love of discovery. Whether it be new knowledge or exploration, the group of them lived on the thrill of something new. In a city as quiet as Laknos, it was often one of few thrills to be found.
Devanus soon discovered that he was also a fan of thrills of a more...physical variety, and fortunately for him, as was one of the girls in his group. To say that they dated would have done them too much credit, but Devanus soon grew closer to her than anyone he had ever known.
Like him, Aurora's family had hailed from another city, and she had been named after it. They were kindred spirits in being outsiders, and the most passionate adventurers of the five. It was no surprise then, that it was Aurora who set the events in motion that led to Devanus' current life.
Only Devanus remains alive to tell the story of what happened in the years between then and now, and he is not sharing. All four of the other members of his old group are dead, as is his father. Devanus is a wraith now, never staying in one place very long, and never doing anything to upset Laknos' precious peace, at least not by too much.
Personality:
Devanus' ancestors are Deproeliorian, and it shows. Devanus has a love of all activities physical, from running to swimming to climbing to sex. He would probably spend his days running freely through the Sprite Forest, talking to a tree or two, and his nights naked if life permitted.
Possessing a violent streak that he tries to keep under control, Devanus has grown out of his desperate nature as a youth, and while he is still mostly pleasant to talk to, he is not as outgoing as he had been. Unless you bring up the past, however, and then you may find yourself on the other end of a knifepoint. Devanus takes his personal life very seriously, and unless you do as well, he will be difficult to get along with.
Should the conversation stray to topics of a more artistic nature, Devanus will be patient, but bored. He has no talent for drawing or painting, nor singing or dancing. He can write, but only in a way that he can speak, having inherited his father's gift for language. He is friendly and generally kind, but does not often talk of himself, and more often than not, will spin a conversation once about him to be about the other person instead.
As a thief, Dev does not begrudge those who lie to him, since it is also in his nature to do the same in return. He gives a basic level of trust freely and reinstates it quickly when broken, allowing him to keep a large network of people in the boundary between acquaintance and true friend. Devanus has not had anyone to count as a confidant in years, but if this still bothers him, it has long since ceased to show.
